IARU World Amateur Radio Day - Apr 18, 2022

Every April 18, radio amateurs worldwide take to the airwaves in celebration of World Amateur Radio Day. It was on this day in 1925 that the International Amateur Radio Union was formed in Paris.

Just two years later, at the International Radiotelegraph Conference, Amateur Radio gained the allocations still recognized today — 160, 80, 40, 20, and 10 meters. Since its founding, the IARU has worked tirelessly to defend and expand the frequency allocations for Amateur Radio.

World Amateur Radio Day is the day when IARU Member-Societies can show our capabilities to the public and enjoy global friendship with other Amateurs worldwide.

Find the list of Special Event Stations to work around the world at IARU World Amateur Radio Day, or create your own Special Event Station. QSL pls

Get on the air and enjoy!

Count Countries Worked, A New DX Scoring System." "The basic rule is
simple and direct: Each discrete geographical or political entity is
considered to be a country." This rule has stood the test of time --
from the original list published in 1937, to the ARRL DXCC List of

Third largest tornado outbreak in Iowa since records began in 1980.

Amateur Radio was active this week monitoring and reporting on severe weather which produced at least 26 tornadoes across Iowa on Wednesday July 14, 2021. Many storms produced brief touchdowns with no reported damage, but several communities received substantial damage from tornadoes with wind speeds 100 mph (EF-1) to 145 mph (EF-3). No injuries or fatalities were reported with these storms.

Emergency Coordinators will be filing reports from counties that activated their Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) personnel. Look for these in the next newsletter.
